Baseball Sweeps Mitchell College

FT. PIERCE, FL — The baseball team opened up their spring break training trip in Ft. Pierce this morning and swept Mitchell College. In game one, Jimmy Donohue threw a shutout as Hawks claimed a 2-0 victory. Zachary Potter earned the win in game two, allowing one run in a 4-1 showing.
The Hawks tallied their first run of the first game in the second inning when Devin Scalabrini hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Doug Chaputian who started off the inning with a single. The other run of the game came in the third on a Joel Judson single to right field, sending Jesse Marsh home who was walked and then stole second. The Hawks registered five hits and left four on base, while Mitchell tallied six hits and left eight on base. Donohue allowed all six hits with no errors and seven strikeouts.
In the second game, Mitchell took the early 1-0 lead with a run in the second inning, before New Paltz responded with a run of their own in the third to tie the game. Neal Rosengren scored when Kevin Paino reached on a fielders choice. The Hawks registered a run in the fourth inning when Chaputian hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Tyler Terlecky and Joel Judson scored in the fifth inning on a wild pitch. New Paltz capped off the scoring in the seventh when Scalabrini singled to right field, sending Paino home. Potter threw the complete game allowing one hit, one error and striking out nine.
The team will continue play tomorrow with a doubleheader against Westminster at 12pm.
