Baseball Falls to Wisconsin-Superior; Defeats Crown College

FT. PIERCE, FL — The baseball team completed their spring trip in Ft. Pierce, FL today with an 8-0 loss to Wisconsin-Superior and a 17-7 victory over Crown College. New Paltz completes their trip with a 9-2 record and advances to 10-5 on the season.
In game one Wisconsin-Superior tallied two runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings along with a single run in the second and seventh inning. New Paltz totaled five hits while leaving eight runners on base. Zachary Potter, Joel Judson, Kevin Paino, Javier Lopez and Doug Chaputian each posted a hit for the Hawks. Greg Fudacz took the loss on the mound in 4.1 innings allowing seven hits, five runs, two walk and struck out five batters. Tristian Greene pitched 2.2 innings and Chris Spizuco threw the final inning.
The second game was called in the eighth inning due to weather and the Hawks earned the victory with a 17-7 showing after seven innings. Crown College scored four runs in the top of the first before New Paltz answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Hawks trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning and took advantage of three Crown College errors to score six runs. The team posted four hits and two runs in the sixth inning and three hits and four runs in the seventh. Chaputian was 3-4 from the plate and Judson was 3-5 with four RBIs to lead the team. Mike Marash and Franco each posted two hits and two RBIs while Mike Fasolo totaled two RBIs. Justin Duchin earned the win on the mound coming in on relief and throwing 4.2 innings. Duchin allowed four hits, one walk, two runs and struck out five batter. Brett Harrison started the game and threw 2.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
New Paltz will return to action on Wednesday March 26th when they host Ithaca at 3pm.
