Baseball Extends Win Streak to Six

FT. PIERCE, FL — The baseball team swept Grinnell College this afternoon 6-2 and 14-6. New Paltz extends their win streak to six as they improve their overall record to 7-3.
In the first game the Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Tyler Terlecky hit a two run RBI single to score Joel Judson and Jesse Marsh. Grinnell evened the ball game at 2-2 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. New Paltz added a run in the fifth, sixth and two in the seventh to finish the scoring. New Paltz registered 12 runs with Terlecky going 3-4 with four RBIs. Marsh, Devin Scalabrini and Robert Helf all added two hits. Senior Jimmy Donohue earned the win on the mound allowing four hits, one walk and striking out 10 batters.
In the second game, New Paltz scored three runs in the first with three hits and extended their lead to 4-0 after two innings. Grinnell came back with three runs in the top of the third before New Paltz added a run in the bottom of the inning and another in the fourth. The Hawks had the bats going in the fifth, scoring eight runs to go up 14-3 before Grinnell scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Marsh was 4-4 from the plate with three RBI and Scalabrini was 2-3 with three RBI to lead the team. Judson, Alex Cadmus, Terlecky, and Lopez each tallied two hits. Zachary Potter pitched five innings to earn the win, allowing six hits three runs two walks and striking out 10 batters. Jeff Stith and Justin Duchin each pitched an inning to preserve the win.
New Paltz returns to action on Thursday when they play Western Connecticut State in a doubleheader at 12 noon.
