Baseball Drops Two to Mary Washington

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team lost both games of the twin bill on Sunday against the University of Mary Washington, falling 6-2 in the opener and 16-5 in the nightcap. The Hawks are now 1-3 on the season.

In the opener, the Hawks took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a single to center field by Joel Judson, which scored Neal Rosengren. New Paltz tallied their second run of the game in the fourth inning on a double to right field by Jaiver Lopez, scoring Devin Scalabrini. Mary Washington responded with two runs of their own in the fourth inning to even the game and put together a four run inning in the sixth for the final score. Jimmy Donohue took the loss on the mound, allowing nine hits and striking out three. Judson was 2-3 at the plate as the Hawks registered five hits.
In the nightcap, the Hawks scored two runs in the first inning on a two run single to right field by Alex Cadmus. Mary Washington tallied one run in the first and five in the second for the 6-2 lead. New Paltz cut the lead to 6-5 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Scalabrini followed by a two run double down the right field line by Zachary Potter. Mary Washington went on to register six runs on the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth for the final. Cadmus and Rosengren were each 2-3 from the plate. Judson took the loss on the mound.
SUNY New Paltz returns to action when they travel to Florida for spring break and will face the Mitchell College on March 15 at 8:45 am in a doubleheader.
