Men’s Volleyball Defeats Mt. St. Vincent 3-0

NEW PALTZ, NY — The men’s volleyball team hosted Mt. St. Vincent tonight and swept the Dolphins 3-0 (30-20, 30-12, 30-20). The Hawks advance to 8-15 on the season, 4-2 in NECVA and will return to action on Wednesday March 5th when they host Vassar at 7pm in their final home game of the season.
Junior Mark Blair hit .643% on 10 kills, 14 attempts and one error while also tallying seven digs and three service aces. Junior Ryan Huberty registered 11 kills, five digs and two aces. Sophomore Alex Jackson totaled nine kills and six digs and classmate Daniel Liberto added five block assists and one solo block. Stephen Pendleton handed out 33 assists and Pedro Medina collected 13 digs. New Paltz hit .405 as a team with seven aces, compared to the Dolphins’ .019% and two aces.
The first game started as a back and fourth battle with the latest tie coming at 8-8 before New Paltz used a 6-1 run to open the game. Mt. St. Vincent battled to within four at 19-15, but the Hawks responded with a 7-0 streak to take control. Game two saw the Hawks lead at 9-7 before a 9-0 run to take command of the game behind the serving of Huberty. Game three was a repeat of game one with the score tied at 8-8 and then the Hawks using a 6-1 run en route to victory.
