Vassar Sweeps Men’s Volleyball

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The men’s volleyball team traveled across the river tonight to take on #9 Vassar and were swept by the Brewers 3-0 (30-28, 30-21, 30-24). Sophomore Alex Jackson led the Hawks with eight kills out of the teams 29. Stephen Pendleton finished with seven kills, 66 assists and three block assists. Pedro Medina collected 12 digs and Ryan Huberty tallied eight digs and four kills.
Game one was the closest of the night, with the teams tied five times during the first twenty points scored. The Hawks used a 7-1 lead to go up 15-10. New Paltz kept its lead until a kill by Vassar tied the score at 24.
The Brewers jumped out to an 12-3 lead in the second game. Though the Hawks got within three points at 22-19, but were never able to take the lead.
The two teams played close to open the third game, with a tie as late as 14-14. A pair of Vassar service aces fueled a 9-2 run that closed out the game and match for the Brewers.
The Hawks fall to 0-8 on the season and 0-1 in NECVA and will return to action on Tuesday February 5th when they host New Haven at 7:00 pm.
