Sarcone Leads Hawks over Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY — Sophomore Nicole Sarcone played the game of her career with 14 points, 10 assists and six steals to lead New Paltz to an 82-67 victory over Hartwick on Tuesday night. Three other players also finished in double figures paced by first year Artie Williams with 16 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Kristen Caban finished with 15 points and senior Amber Sohns added 10 points.
"We had some ups and downs throughout the game but persevered when needed and finished strong," stated New Paltz head coach Jamie Seward. "Nicole was outstanding for us, playing to her up most potential. And Kristin Sitek provided great defense off the bench, especially in the press."
New Paltz jumped out to an early 14-9 lead, and extended the gap to as many as 15 with 5:02 remaining. Hartwick fought back to within six, before New Paltz ended the half with a layup and the 34-26 intermission lead. In the second half, New Paltz led by 14 at 55-41, but Hartwick went on a 16-2 run to tie the game at 57 each with 8:22 left. New Paltz regained control and outscored Hartwick 25-10 en route to the 82-67 final.
New Paltz advances to 12-5 on the season and will return to action on Friday when they host Potsdam at 6:00 pm.
