Red Dragons Sweep New Paltz Swimming

CORTLAND, NY — The men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to Cortland this afternoon for their final dual meet of the season and were swept by the Red Dragons. The women lost 106.5- 98.5, while the men lost 117.5-85.5.
Michelle Coombs claimed two individual events by winning the 50 free (24.88) and the 200 back (2:09.36). Marissa Morris won the 200 free (2:00.65), Erica Ellis took the 200 IM (2:18.91) and Christine Rieth won the 100 free (55.75). Melinda Pullen took second in the 1000 free in 11:07.44. The 400 medley relay of Coombs, Becky Baker, Ellis and Morris finished second in 4:06.82.
On the men’s side, the Hawks swept the 200 IM and the 200 back. In the 200 IM, Zack Lowenstein took first (2:05.54), Rob Webb touched second (2:07.42), and John Fleckenstein took third (2:08.26). The 200 back was won by Stephen Cozzolongo (2:00.81), Fleckenstein took second (2:07.29) and Lowenstein finished third (2:07.60). First year David Gardner touched second in the 50 free (22.56) and the 100 free (50.18).
The teams will return to action at the SUNYAC Championships held Feb. 7th-9th.
