Men’s Basketball Falls to Geneseo Knights

NEW PALTZ, NY — The men’s basketball team hosted Geneseo tonight and fell to the Knights by a score of 62-41. Geneseo started the game on a 6-0 run before the Hawks battled back to tie the game at 10-10 on the free throw by Kyle Nelson. The Hawks took their only lead of the game on the second free throw by Nelson and followed with a jumper by Lee Bertram for the 13-10 advantage at 11:05. The Knights responded quickly and ended the half up 31-22.
In the second stanza Geneseo opened with an 11-2 run and never looked back. The Knights held a slight 35-33 edge on the boards but outshot the Hawks 50% to 30.2%.
Junior Matt Hauser led New Paltz with 14 points, hitting four buckets from behind the arc. Kyle Nelson finished with 11 points and Lee Bertram added 10 points and grabbed a game high eight boards.
The Hawks fall to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 conference play and return to action tomorrow when they host John Jay College at 6pm.
