Women’s Basketball Opens Season With 61-52 Setback

ALLENTOWN, PA — Sophomore Kristen Caban led the Hawks with 13 points, but it was not enough as the New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to Scranton, 61-52, in the season-opener for both teams on Friday afternoon in the first round game of Muhlenberg’s Scotty Wood Tournament.
The Hawks led 29-21 at the half and retained the lead for most of the second, before #14 Scranton tied the game with 2:11 remaining. The Royals took at 52-50 lead at the 1:48 mark and never looked back.
Senior Amber Sohns finished with ten points and five rebounds while classmate Sarah Salvo chipped in with eight points and four boards. Sophomore Nicole Sarcone dished out seven assists, grabbed seven boards and tallied five assists.
The Hawks (0-1) return to action tomorrow at 1:00 pm in the consolation game against Muhlenberg/Villa Julie.
