Women’s Basketball Defeats Vassar 62-47

Three players scored in double-digits as the women’s basketball team defeated Vassar 62-47 Tuesday night. Senior Amber Sohns paced the offense with 13 points on five of eight from the field and grabbed a team high seven boards. Sophomore Kristen Caban finished with 12 points, including going 4-4 from the charity stripe and Chelsea Clarke chipped in with 10 points. Nicole Sarcone had an all around game with eight points, six boards, seven assists and three steals.
New Paltz capitalized on 31 Vassar turnovers, converting those miscues into 30 points in breaking away from a 30-25 halftime lead. The game was tied four timed with the last coming at 33-33 with 16:55 remaining in regulation. New Paltz expanded their lead to six before the Brewers closed the gap to two at 43-41. The Hawks exploded for a 12-2 run and never looked back for the rest of the game to close out with the 15 point difference.
New Paltz advances to 2-1 on the season and will return to action on Friday November 30th when they travel to Brockport to open their SUNYAC schedule against the Golden Eagles at 6pm.
