Cross Country Completes Season at NCAA Atlantic Regionals

The Men and Women Cross Country Hawks wrapped up their respective seasons at the NCAA Division III Regional Cross Country Championships held at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx on Saturday November 10th.

The women’s 6K race went off first and leading the way for the Lady Hawks was freshman Danielle Harmon. Harmon capped off her outstanding season with a time of 24:34, placing 84th out of 255 runners. Lisa Cassaro and Stephanie Albinski placed 112th and 118th respectively posting excellent times of 25:09 and 25:12 both significant improvements over their times on the same course at the NYU invitational. Rebecca Shuriff carved 60 seconds off her best 6k mark with a time of 27:37 finishing in 194th place and rounding out the top five was team captain Erin Lavin finishing in a personal best time of 27:49 eclipsing her old personal record by 50 seconds. New Paltz placed 24th out of 37 teams in spite of the loss of their regular number four-runner Olga Stulov who has been sidelined with a case of bursitis in her knee. Joanna Goldfarb a regular in the top seven was also unable to compete due to a case of shin splints.

The men’s team completed their season finishing 30th out of 39 teams. Nick Avello once again lead the Hawks with a personal best time of 28:15. Avello was followed by Rob Grazier in 29:09, Tim Ivancic was third man in 29:15 a personal best for him by 45 seconds, Alex Colucci in 29:40 seconds, Robert Webster broke into the top five with a 67 second personal best of 30:17, David Caruso in the sixth spot with a 50 second personal best of 30:43 and finishing out his college cross country career with a very respectable time of 31:10 was Sean Brown. Four of the seven men capped their Cross Country season with personal best marks in the 8k.
