2007 Cross Country Season Recap

NEW PALTZ, NY — In 2007, the teams capped off their season at the NCAA Atlantic Regional held in Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
The women’s team posted their best team finish at William Smith in the Cross Country Only Conference (CCOC) meet with a second place finish. First year Danielle Harmon had an outstanding season as she lead the Hawks in each meet. She posted a personal best 24:32.5 in the 6K at the Geneseo Invite and a 19:41 in the 5K held at William Smith. She earned first team CCOC recognition along with CCOC rookie of the year honors. Sophomore Lisa Cassaro and junior Stephanie Albinski were always close behind Harmon for second and third finishes. Cassaro and Albinski both improved from the 2006 season posting personal bests in their 5K and 6K. Olga Stulov was a consistent number four runner and Joanna Goldfarb could be counted on in the top seven but both ended their seasons with runner injuries. Sophomore Rebecca Shuriff carved 60 seconds off her best 6k mark and team captain Erin Lavin finished her career improving her personal record by 50 seconds.
The men’s season was filled with personal bests. Sophomore Nick Avello was the top finisher for the Hawks throughout the season. Avello posted a personal best 28:15 over the 8K course at the NCAA Regionals. Avello was usually followed by classmate Robert Grazier who posted his personal best 28:32 at William Smith. Sophomores Alex Colucci and Tim Ivancic made great strides from the 2006 season each improving over three minutes in the first meet of the year and cutting down their time throughout the rest of the season. First years Robert Webster and Dan Caruso broke into the cross country scene and improved each meet finishing the year with their personal record.
