Women’s Soccer Ends Season in Heartbreak

The women’s soccer team traveled to Plattsburgh this afternoon for the SUNYAC Quarterfinals. The game officially ended as 1-1 tie following double-overtime but New Paltz (7-6-6) was eventually eliminated on penatly kicks (4-3) by host Plattsburgh (14-3-2).
Senior Stephanie Potts put the Hawks on the board first at 38:58 on an assist from junior Jennifer Anselmi. Potts took a through ball from Anselmi, beat the defender and one touched the ball into the goal past Plattsburgh keeper Kathryn Lind. The Cardinals tallied the equalizer 2:28 into the second half when Helen Giroux blasted a shot which deflected off the post and into the net. After a scoreless double overtime, Plattsburgh advances to the SUNYAC semifinals on a 4-3 shootout advantage. The Hawks were outshot 24-4 in the contest as junior goalie Sarah Boccard posted ten saves in net .
