Field Hockey Drops to Stevens 2-1

The field hockey team traveled to Stevens Institute of Technology tonight and lost by a final scored of 2-1. The Hawks drop to 5-11 on the season.
Stevens, which held a 12-10 shot advantage on the evening, opened up the scoring in the second minute when Lauren Griggs passed a ball inside to Kara Borzillo, who punched a shot into the right corner of the cage to give the Ducks the early lead. Shortly thereafter, Griggs found the inside of the net when she slid a ball under the legs of New Paltz sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Malone (Congers, N.Y.) to make the score 2-0. Then, in the final minute of the first half, Hawks’ freshman forward Lauren Nicomini (Newton, N.J.) slapped an 18-yard shot into the right side of the net after a short pass came to her off the stick of freshman forward/midfielder Jessica Moore (Walden, N.Y.). In the second stanza, neither squad reached the scoreboard so the Ducks hung on for a 2-1 win.
Malone made four saves for New Paltz. The Hawks also owned a 9-7 edge in penalty corners. New Paltz returns to action on Saturday when they host Vassar in their final home game.
