Cross Country Women Finish 2nd, Men Place 5th at William Smith

The New Paltz men’s and women’ cross country teams competed in the CCOC meet this weekend in Geneva, New York at Seneca Lake State Park. The meet was attended by William Smith/Hobart, Daemen, Clarkson, Utica, Potsdam, St. John Fisher and SUNY IT.

The New Paltz women put in their strongest performance of the season placing second with 56 points. Our women’s team was once again lead by Danielle Harmon in 19:41 followed by Lisa Cassaro in 19:45, Stephanie Albinski 19:59, Olga Stulov 20:29 and team captain Erin Lavin 22:11. New Paltz individual placing was 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 31st. Eight of our ten Lady Hawk runners finished the day with career personal bests for 5k. Harmon, Cassaro, Albinski, and Stulov earned CCOC first team honors and Harmon was recognized as the rookie of the year.

The men’s team put in strong individual performances with four out of seven runners putting in all time personal best for 8k and one runner with a seasonal best. Rob Grazier lead the team with a personal best time of 28:32 followed by Nick Avello in 28:35 also a personal best. Grazier earned second team CCOC honors for his 13th place finish. Tim Ivancic was the third New Paltz runner to cross the line with a 30:08, four seconds off of his best. Sophomore Alex Colucci suffering with severe shin splints was fourth and rounding out the top five was Sean Brown with a time of 30:35 a season best and two minute improvement from SUNYAC. Brown missed his collegiate career best by just 20 seconds. First year members Robert Webster (31:24) and Dan Caruso (31:33) both ran personal bests.
