Hawks Open Season with 9-0 Win

NEW PALTZ, NY — The women’s tennis team traveled to Potsdam for their season opener and swept the Bears, 9-0. The defending SUNYAC Champions were anchored by top players Dana Lim and Eri Yamakawa, who paired up for first doubles and competed in first and second singles, respectively. Lim and Yamakawa defeated Potsdam’s Jessica Castaneda and Erika Brown 8-0. Lim swept Brown in first singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Yamakawa served up 6-0, 6-0 sets against Castaneda. Sophomore Liz Bierne claimed third singles 6-1, 6-0 and Katherine Ketigian won fourth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 performance. Junior Lindsay Trifiletti earned fifth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 showing and Kerri Serkes returned to her sixth singles spot and breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
In doubles action, Bierne paired up with Lovinger and claimed an 8-2 win, while Ketigian partnered with first year Stephanie Schara for an 8-0 sweep. The team will return to action tomorrow at 12:00 pm against Plattsburgh.
