Day One at ITA Tennis Tournament

GENEVA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team ended the first day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tournament held at William Smith in Geneva, NY.
In singles action, Dana Lim advanced past the first round defeating Alexa Perry of Rochester 6-0, 6-2 before falling to Deborah Barany of Hamilton 7-5, 6-3. Eri Yamakawa fell in the first round to Alexis Stanley of RIT 0-6, 7-5, 6-1. In the consolation bracket Yamakawa defeated Melinda Beckmann of Rochester 8-2 and will face Jaclyn Manning of NYU on Saturday. Sophomore Liz Beirne was defeated in the first round by Whitney Bender of Stevens Tech 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 before moving to the consolation bracket where she defeated Laura Brantley of Hamilton 8-5. Beirne plays Ashley Balling of Brockport on Saturday. Lyndsey Lovinger fell in the first round of single play to Casey Golman of St. Lawrence 6-1, 6-0 and will square off against Joanna Cash of RIT on Saturday in the consolation round.
In doubles play, Lim and Yamakawa paired up to defeat Faber/Martinez of Nazareth 8-5 and Becalla/Kingman of Stevens Tech 8-5. The duo will face the number one seed of Contrafatto and Shtemberg from the College of New Jersey on Saturday. Beirne and Lovinger were defeated in the first round of doubles by Finn and Rodriquez of St. Lawrence 8-6.
