Hawks Split with Bearcats

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team hosted Baruch College this afternoon and split with the Bearcats, claiming game one 10-0 before losing the nightcap 8-3.
In the first game, the Hawks took full control and cruised to the 10-0 victory. Senior John DeKams led the offense, going three for three from the plate with three RBIs. First baseman Steve Ferguson and left fielder George Perry each added two hits for the Hawks. New Paltz out-hit the Bearcats 11-4. John DeKams earned the win on the mound, allowing only four hits in five innings and striking out three batters. Justin Duchin pitched the final two innings and allowed zero runs on zero hits with one strikeout.
In the second game, the Bearcats registered three runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Hawks tallied a run in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch. Baruch tacked on three more runs in the third inning for the 6-1 lead before New Paltz cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Terlecky hit a the two run RBI single up the middle. Baruch finished the scoring in the sixth inning with two RBI doubles. New Paltz registered seven hits in the game, compared to Baruch’s 14. John DeKams went three for three, with other hits credited to Jesse Marsh, Kevin Paino, Justin Buonamano and Terlekcy. First year Ted DeKams took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on seven hits in two innings. Neal Rosengren came in on relief and allowed two runs on seven hits in four innings.
New Paltz will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons in their final regular season SUNYAC doubleheader.
