Hawks Spilt with Wildcats

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team hosted SUNYIT this afternoon in a SUNYAC double-header and split with the Wildcats. In the first game the Hawks lost a 9-6 decision. The Wildcats tallied two runs in each of the first three innings for an early 6-0 lead before the Hawks took the board in the bottom of the third. Alex Cadmus hit an RBI double to right center. In the fourth, Jesse Marsh hit an RBI single to cut the lead to four, but the Wildcats responded with two runs in the fifth. The Hawks tallied four runs in the sixth inning but that’s as close as they would come before the Wildcats added the final run in the seventh.
Marsh led the offense with three hits. Cadmus, Javier Lopez, and George Perry each recorded two hits for the Hawks. John Giuliano took the loss on the mound, allowing ten hits and eight runs in five innings.
The Hawks claimed a 15-5 victory in the second game. The Hawks took a 4-0 lead after two innings before the rain came. The Wildcats evened the score with four runs in the top of the third, but the Hawks responded with four runs on their own in the bottom of the inning. New Paltz added six runs in the fourth for the 14-4 lead and each team tallied a run in the sixth inning.
Tyler Terlecky went three for four from the plate with four RBI. Kevin Paino went four for five and two RBI and Cadmus hit three for five with two RBI. Johnathon Shanks earned the win, allowing five runs and striking out five batters in five innings.
The Hawks advance to 7-11 on the season and 2-2 in SUNYAC play. New Paltz will return to action on April 4th when they travel to Vassar for a 3p.m. match-up.
