Hawks Sweep Western Connecticut State

FT. PIERCE, FL — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team continued with their spring break trip today. The Hawks faced Western Connecticut State in a double header and won in convincing fashion 13-3 and 11-4.
In the first game the Hawks jumped out to an early 5-1 lead after two innings. The Hawks had a huge fourth inning, knocking home eight runs. The Hawks hit four singles and one double in the inning. Right fielder Justin Buonamano went four of five from the plate with seven RBI. Jesse Marsh went three for five and John DeKams went two for three.
John Giuliano threw a complete seven-inning game allowing eight hits, three runs and one strikeout.
In game two, New Paltz trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth inning before the Hawks took control of the game. New Paltz scored all 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Kevin Paino went two for two from the plate and Robert Helf hit three for three with two RBI to lead the offense. DeKams, Buonamano and Alex Cadmus each had two hits and two RBI. Johnathan Shanks earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete game. Shanks allowed three hits, four runs and tossed seven strikeouts.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday when they play Earlham College in a double-header.
