Hawks Split with Grinnell

FT. PIERCE, FL — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team continued play in Ft. Pierce, FL today with a doubleheader against Grinnell.
In the first game, the Hawks fell by a score of 5-2. Grinnell took the board first with two runs in the top of the first. The Hawks followed with Kevin Paino run. New Paltz tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Tyler Antrim struck out swinging but reached first on a wild pitch. Antrim advanced to second on a George Perry ground out to first base. Jesse Marsh singled to advance Antrim to third. Antrim scored on a Paino sacrifice fly to left field. Grinnell scored three runs in the seventh to claim in the win.
Jim Donohue took the loss on the mound allowing ten hits, five runs, five walks and three strikeouts.
In the second game, the Hawks rebounded for an 8-0 victory. New Paltz scored two runs in the third and six in the fourth. Justin Buonamano went two for four from the plate with two RBI and John DeKams had one hit with two RBI. Marsh had two hits and Paino, Alex Cadmus, Tyler Terlecky, Javier Lopez, and Perry each tallied one hit each.
Junior Zachary Potter threw a complete seven innings, allowing only one hit and striking out eight.
The Hawks return to action on March 28th when they travel to Ithaca to face the Bombers at 3:00.
