2006-07 Women’s Basketball Season Recap

NEW PALTZ, NY — The 2006-07 was a record breaking year for the women’s basketball team. They complied a 17-11 overall record an a 10-6 record in conference play, setting the school record for wins in both categories. The Hawks earned their highest postseason berth to the SUNYAC tournament as the fourth seed, where they hosted Geneseo in the SUNYAC quarterfinals. The Hawks used a miracle comeback of 12 points in 43 seconds to send the game to overtime and defeat the Knights. The Hawks advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals and were defeated by the first seeded Cortland Red Dragons. New Paltz earned a bid to the ECAC Tournament as the sixth seed and were knocked out by #3 Oswego in the first round. Junior Amber Sohns earned All-SUNYAC honorable mention averaging 8.7 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per outing. First year Kristin Sitek netted 8.6 points and a .797 free throw percentage. Classmates Chelsea Clarke and Maggie Farrell netted 7.2 points each and senior Kerri Kelty led with 3.3 assists.
