Hawks Soar to 81-36 Win Over Russell Sage

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team hosted the Russell Sage Gators tonight and soared to an 81-36 victory. With the win the Hawks advance to 13-6 on the season. SUNY New Paltz took a 5-3 lead at 18:33, followed by a 15-0 run to open up the game 20-3 with 14:18 remaining in the first half. The Hawks went into halftime with a 46-22 advantage. Senior Jenny Driscoll scored all of her 14 points in the first half, shooting four of seven from behind the arc. In the second half the Hawks held the Gators to three points until the 6:27 mark, when Ashley Wojcicki scored a layup. For the game the Hawks outrebounded the Gators 44-21 and shot an impressive 60.3% from the floor.
Junior Sarah Salvo scored a career high 18 points on 9-of-10 from the field, grabbed five boards and handed out four assists. Amber Sohns hit all three of her attempts and one free throw for nine points.
Ashli Fragomeni led the Gators with seven points. Joahna Petralia and Ashley Wojcicki each chipped in with six points.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host the Oneonta Red Dragons at 2 p.m.
