Hawks Are Elminated From ECAC Tournament by Oswego

OSWEGO, NY — The sixth seeded SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team traveled to third seeded Oswego tonight to take on the Lakers in the first round of the ECAC Upstate Tournament. The Hawks fell by a score of 71-59 and complete their season with an overall record of 17-11, setting a school record for most wins in a season.
Oswego jumped out to a 22-12 lead with 11:29 remaing in the first half before the Hawks went on a 22-6 run to close the Hawks with the 34-28 lead. New Paltz came out strong in the second stanza and took their largest lead at 44-30 with 15:57 left. The Hawks held a ten point lead at 9:21 (52-42) before Oswego went on an 11-1 run to tie the game at 53. The Lakers outscored the Hawks 18-6 in the final six minutes of the game for the final score.
First year Chelsea Clarke led the Hawks with a career high 18 points, hitting eight-of-11 from the field. Nicole Sarcone finished with eight points, five assists and five steals and Abbey DeRossi scored a career high seven points on three-of-four. New Paltz shot 47.2% from the field as a team, compared to Oswego’s 55.1% and were outrebounded by the Lakers 31-24.
