Swimming Falls to Cortland

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted the Cortland Red Dragons this afternoon. The women were defeated by a score of 115.5-89.5 and the men lost 109-94.
Stefan Crain claimed the 1000 freestyle (10:50.48) and the 500 free (5:06.07). Stephen Cozzolongo claimed the 200 backstroke in 2:03.02, four seconds ahead of second place. Zack Lowenstein and Cozzolongo went one-two in the 200 IM in times of 2:04.80 and 2:08.72, respectively. Lowenstein finished second in the 100 free (50.50) and Brenden Lown touched third (52.27).
On the women’s side, Michelle Coombs was a double winner as she won the 50 free (23.44) and the 100 free (53.75). Ashley Williamson touched third in the 100 free (56.60). Junior Liz Ruggiero touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:14.76) and Joelle Hopf claimed the 200 breatstroke (2:30.64). Katie Rapp and Samantha Graham went two-three in the 200 backstroke with Rapp finishing in 2:17.99 and Graham touching in 2:18.00.
The Hawks head off to SUNYAC Championships February 8th-10th in Buffalo, NY.
