Men’s Volleyball Defeats Hunter in Season Opener

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks opened their season Saturday with a 3-1 (30-13, 29-31, 30-16, 30-27) against Hunter College.
New Paltz claimed game one with ease but game two saw Hunter college fight off four New Paltz game points to even the match at 1-1. In game three, SUNY New Paltz regained their composure to cruise to a 14 point win. Game four was competitive with both teams taking the lead several times. Hunter led 22-17 before a short New Paltz run cut the lead to just one point, 22-21 and New Paltz held on for the game four win and match victory.
Christopher Holden led the attack with 16 kills on 22 attempts with 10 blocks. Josh Spiro finished with 11 kills and Ryan Huberty added eight kills. Matt Weingarten dished out 37 assists and Pedro Medina contributed 22 digs.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday Jan. 24th when they host Stevens at 7 p.m.
