Women’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Five

STATEN ISLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team travelled to the College of Staten Island to take on the Dolphins in a non-conference match-up. The Hawks extended their win streak to five with a 61-52 victory and advance to 6-1 overall on the season.
The Dolhins built an 11-4 lead early in the game before the Hawks would rally over the ensuing two minutes, putting together a 7-0 run on a layup by forward Carly Minehan, a three pointer by Nicole Sarcon and a layup by Amber Sohns. The teams would continue to trade baskets, with CSI taking their final lead of the game, 19-18 with 8:57 left in the first half. From there, the Hawks closed out the half on a 13-3 run, taking a 31-22 advantage into halftime.
The Dolphins started the second half by outscoring the Hawks 8-0 over the first three minutes of the frame to bring the game to withone one, 31-30, with 16:59 remaining the first half. The Hawks and Dolphins would keep things close, until SUNY New Paltz was able to finish with clutch baskets and solid defense down the stretch.
Minehan led the Hawks with 14 points on 6 of 9 from the field and hauling down 10 rebounds. Chelsea Clarke chipped in with 14 points and Maggie Farrell added 13 points and dished out four assists. New Paltz outshot the College of Staten Island 45.6% to 29.2% from the field.
New Paltz will return to action at the end of the month when they travel to California to take on the Bethany Bruins on Dec. 27th.
