Hawks Soar Past Wildcats, 68-57

UTICA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team soared past the SUNYIT Wildcats, 68-57, in a SUNYAC match-up Tuesday night. The Hawks remain undfeated in conference play as they advance to 3-0 and 5-1 overall. First year Chelsea Clarke led the way with 10 points, shooting five of seven from the field. Senior Jenny Driscoll added nine points and classmate Kerri Kelty chipped in with eight points and dished out four assists. First year Carly Minehan tallied seven points and hauled down a team high eight boards, while Kristen Sitek scored six points and grabbed six rebounds for the Hawks.
As a team SUNY New Paltz shot 40.4% from the field and 33.3% from the arc. The Hawks led 38-20 at the intermission and were soon up by 25 points for their largest lead of the game. SUNYIT pulled to within 10 with :53 seconds remaining in the game, but that’s as close as they would come to closing the gap.
New Paltz returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 9th when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a 2:00 p.m match-up.
