Lim and Yamakawa Advance to Third Round Singles at ITA Northeast Region Championships

GENEVA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team began the first day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tournament held at William Smith in Geneva, NY. This is the Northeast Regional Championship Tournament.
Sophomore Dana Lim (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) defeated Alexandra Holzman of Drew University by scores of 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the second round. Lim went on to face Sam Schraeter of William Smith and won 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the third round on Saturday.
Junior Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) paired up against Plattburgh’s Valerie Papi in the first round was won the match 6-0, 6-2. In the second round she defeated Laura Hale of St. John Fisher 6-2, 6-0. The third round will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23rd.
Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis) won 6-4, 6-4 against Shari Damon of William Smith in the first round but fell to the #6 seed of the tournament Dana Bacalla of Stevens Institute of Technology in the second round 6-1, 6-0. Laura Elizabeth-Beirne (Moriches, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) fell to Kristin Tukel of Richard Stockton in the opening round, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Lim and Yamakawa, seeded number two, defeated Griffin and Hale of St. John Fisher, 8-1 to advance to the second round. In the second round of play Lim and Yamakawa defeated Garrow and Papi of Plattsburgh, 8-4. Katherine Ketigian (Scared Heart Academy/Garden City) and Larson squared off against Cross and Webster of the University of Rochester in the first round and lost 8-5.
