SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Drops to Cortland

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team lost to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Cortland by final of 65-53.

Cortland (20-2, 14-0) led at halftime, 34-21, after opening up with an early 7-0 lead. The Hawks managed to stay close behind the play of sophomore forward Amber Sohns (Delhi, NY). Sohns finished the opening half with five points to lead SUNY New Paltz (9-15, 3-12). Senior guard Dani Maye (Kirkwood, NY) led the Red Dragons with 11 points at the break.

Sophomore center Christine Trupiano (Massapequa, NY) continued her recent strong play, in the post, providing the Hawks with 15 points and nine rebounds. Sohns finished the affair with 12 points and five assists to lead SUNY New Paltz. Senior guard Kaylin VanDusen (Schuyler, NY) led all scorers with 21 points for the Red Dragons. Maye and sophomore forward Sara Cavanaugh (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) joined her in double figures with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball will host Plattsburgh for a SUNYAC contest on Friday, February 17, in a 6:00 pm contest.
