SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Improves to 6-2 in NECVA Metro

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team won their third consecutive match by a 3-0 final as they swept Ramapo College this evening (30-26, 30-24, 30-28). The Hawks advance to 6-2 in the North Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro Division and 13-4 overall with the win.

Down 17-12 in game one, SUNY New Paltz (13-4, 6-2) rallied to within one of the Roadrunners, 19-18, forcing them to call a timeout. Following the timeout, the Hawks continued to seize the momentum and took game one, 30-26.

The Hawks set a 17-11 edge in game two before continuing on to a 30-24 win as the team combined for a .571 hitting percentage.

Game three remained much closer than the first two, but ended with the same result. SUNY New Paltz played solid down the stretch to win the game 30-28 and earn the 3-0 match victory.

Senior outside hitter Jamie Kellogg (Scio, NY) registered 14 kills and hit .524 on 21 attempts to pace SUNY New Paltz. Junior outside hitter Jeff Lee (Clifton Park, NY) joined him in double figure kills with 12, each finished with seven digs. The Hawks received nine kills apiece from senior opposite Ryan Bullard (Smithtown, NY) and junior middle blocker Josh Spiro (Island Park, NY). Spiro collected three blocks, as Bullard hit .600 on the evening. Freshman setter Matt Weingarten (East Moriches, NY) directed the SUNY New Paltz offense with 48 assists.

Sophomore outside hitter David Ross (Perth Amboy, NJ) led Ramapo College (12-4, 4-4) with 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while freshman setter Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) totaled 31 assists in the loss.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team will travel to New Jersey City University for a 7:00 pm NECVA Metro Division match on Wednesday, February 22.
