SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Slips to 4-5 in Loss

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team took a 56-42 loss this evening at the hands of Baruch College.

SUNY New Paltz (4-5) entered halftime up 23-22. Junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) led the Hawks in the first half with eight points and six rebounds. Seniors, guard Louie Karis (Brooklyn, NY) registered seven points in the opening half, and forward Cheick Fadika (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) totaled six points and six boards to keep the Bearcats close.

Baruch College (11-3) opened up the second half with a 16-6 run to provide themselves with a good cushion. Freshman forward Steven Lewis (Brooklyn, NY) made a lay-up to bring the Hawks to within ten with 3:26 remaining. The Bearcats, however, quickly responded with two field goals to reestablish a 14-point lead and end the SUNY New Paltz comeback campaign.

Baruch College had two players finish the evening with double-doubles. Senior forward Anwar Baptiste (Bronx, NY) posted 10 points and 13 rebounds, five offensively, while Fadika led all players with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Hauser finished the night with eight points and tied his season-high with 12 rebounds. Junior guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) added 12 points and three steals; Lewis pitched in 10 points in the loss.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team will travel to play Manhattanville College on Saturday, January 7 at 2:00 pm.
