SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Falls Short At Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Team lost their sixth game in a row, and their fourth consecutive conference contest this evening to Brockport, 83-66.

SUNY New Paltz (4-10, 1-5) struggled from the start trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half. Brockport (6-7, 2-2), who shot 47.2 percent from the floor in the first half, surged to a 39-26 lead at the break. The Hawks managed to keep the game close, but were unable to cut the Golden Eagle lead under seven.

SUNY New Paltz would give a valiant effort, shooting 42.9 percent from behind the arch in the second half. Junior guard John Hauser (East Williston, NY) led the offense for the Hawks scoring 20 points on the evening. Junior forward Bobby Kaible (Saugerties, NY) and senior guard Keith Crichlow(Central Islip, NY) recorded 12 points and 13 points, respectively. Junior center Jerome Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) collected 10 points while grabbing seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Hawks, 49-31, snatching 31 defensive boards.The Golden Eagles had two players in double figures. Senior guard Ben Bellucci (Cicero, NY) was unstoppable scoring 33 points with six rebounds and five assists and junior guard Dan Rubertone (Smithtown, NY) collected 12 points and 14 rebounds. Senior forward Kenny Amparo (Yonkers, NY) crashed the boards for Brockport finishing the evening with 11 rebounds.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team returns to action on Friday, January 20, when they host conference rival Oswego at 8:00 pm.
