Hawks’ Eighth Annual Winter Baseball Clinic A Success

NEW PALTZ, NY — The weather did not seem like winter and inside Elting Gymnasium there was a hint of spring as the SUNY New Paltz Baseball team conducted its eighth annual winter baseball clinic. 32 eager campers with ages ranging from 6 to 16 participated in the day-long event that ran from 9am until 3pm. Campers listened to instruction from the entire baseball coaching staff along with seven current New Paltz players and participated in drills designed to hone their skills for the upcoming baseball season. Morning skill sessions included baserunning and sliding, throwing mechanics, infield play, bunting and hitting. The afternoon sessions included pitching, outfield play, situational hitting and catching. The camp was concluded with a weight lifting tutorial for 14-16 year old campers while the younger campers played a live game in the gymnasium.

Members of the team that helped conduct the clinic were seniors Dean Glanzman (Commack, NY/Commack), Ryan Schafer (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) and Eric Velazquez (Chestnut, NY/Spring Valley), juniors Justin Buonamano (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) and Danny Garcia (Patterson, NY/Carmel) and freshmen Tristan Greene (E. Hampton, NY/E. Hampton) and Chris Spizuco (Northport, NY/Northport).

The entire SUNY New Paltz Baeball program would like to thank all the participated in the event, which helps offset the cost of the team’s spring break trip to Fort Pierce, FL scheduled for March 18th-24th.
