SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Has Four Named All-Conference

FREDONIA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team continued an all ready successful 2005 with four players receiving State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) all-conference accolades. Senior middle hitter Christina Mazurowski (Tonawanda, NY) earned acclaim as the SUNYAC Player of the Year for the East Division.

For their play throughout the 2005 fall season, Mazurowski and sophomore setter Katie Becofsky (Altamont, NY) earned first team recognition while senior outside hitter Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) and junior right side Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) secured second team selections in the East Division. For Becofsky and Clouston this marks the first time in their respective careers that they have received an all-conference team selection, Becofsky was the East Division Rookie of the Year in 2004. Mazurowski and Kaiser both earned first team accolades in 2004.

Becofsky ran the Hawk’s offense with great efficiency this year. Only a sophomore, Becofsky has become SUNY New Paltz’s all-time assist leader (2,113) with an appearance at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament still on the schedule. Her 1,153 assists in 2005 is the Hawk’s highest season total for assists since 1998.

In 2005, Clouston leads the Hawk’s in service aces with 53 and is third in kills (283) and digs (442).

Kaiser has collected a team-high 375 kills and was selected as a member of the All-State First Team, awarded by New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA). Kaiser is currently the all-time leader in games played for SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball; she is third all-time in kills (1,213) and second in digs (1,379). She was the Hawk’s only player to be selected to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team last weekend, November 4 and 5 at Cortland.

Mazurowski, named the SUNYAC East Division Player of the Year, has had a remarkable 2005 season. She recently received her second SUNYAC Player of the Week recognition for the week ending October 31; she had won the award earlier for the week ending September 27 when she also received the same honor at the state level. In addition, Mazurowski was selected for the All-State First Team and she ranks fourth all-time in kills (1,054) and first in blocks (522) at SUNY New Paltz.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team will conclude their 2005 season with an appearance at ECAC Championship Tournament this weekend, November 12 and 13.
