SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team Takes ECAC Loss

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team competed in the first round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament falling to Fredonia by a score of 2-1. SUNY New Paltz has not had an ECAC berth since 1999 when they lost in the opening round by a score of 2-1 to Keuka College.

With under ten minutes left in the final half of play, freshman defender Mimi Blackman (Pittsford, NY) fired a shot over the head of Hawks goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 edge. Senior midfielder Anita Salinas (Rochester, NY) was credited with the assist. Fredonia (11-6-4) was able to hold off the offense of SUNY New Paltz (10-7-2) for the remaining nine minutes of play.

The first goal of the game was scored when Blue Devils’ senior forward Danielle Rawcliffe (Rochester, NY) fired a shot which Boccard saved, the rebound deflected off a New Paltz defender into the back of the net. At 63:08 freshman midfielder Jennifer Anselmi (Garnerville, NY) crossed the ball in front of the goal to freshman forward Kate Addiss (Amherst, NY), who one touched the ball passed Fredonia goalkeeper tying the game at one.

The Hawks totaled eight shot in the game, while Fredonia tallied 14. Boccard recorded seven saves for the Hawks. Fredonia’s freshman goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport, NY) collected six saves in the win.
