SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Loses Season Opener

MADISON, NJ — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team dropped their season opener on the road this weekend to Drew University, 63-56. This was the Hawks’ opening round contest at the Rose City Classic hosted by Drew University.

SUNY New Paltz (0-1) shot 32% from the field in the opening half and found themselves behind 29-26 at the half. Freshman forward Laura Methvin (Newark, DE) led the Rangers charge totaling 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Hawks kept the contest within reach, converting four-of-eight from beyond the three-point line in the second half. Senior forward Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) led the Hawks with 17 points and nine rebounds, six offensively. Senior center Alexandria Cruse (Poughkeepsie, NY) grabbed 12 rebounds in seventeen minutes. Drew University (1-0) proved too much for the Hawks shooting 43% from the field for the contest. Including Methvin, four Rangers finished the night in double figures junior guard Courtney Cunningham (Garden City, NY) and sophomore center Pam Kakalec (Darnestown, MD) registered ten points. Junior guard Maggie Marquis (Annandale, NJ) was six-of-seven from the field, totaling 14 points in the win.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team will face Saint Joseph?s of Brooklyn at 1:00 pm tomorrow, November 20 in the Rose City Classic Consolation Game.
