SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Falls to Saints

ALBANY, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team traveled to Albany State to play St. Lawrence University. St. Lawrence defeated the Hawks 4-1 to even their record at 7-7-2, with the loss SUNY New Paltz drops to 6-12.

The Saints took a 2-0 edge into halftime. Sophomore forward James Merrill (Kennebunk, ME) put St. Lawrence on the board at 29:05 off a pass from sophomore defenseman Sean Charles (Ballston Lake, NY). The Saints extended their lead to two before halftime when freshman defenseman Dan Quitt (South Salem, NY) scored with seven seconds remaining.

In the 63rd minute, junior forward Greg Foss (Queensbury, NY) scored his third goal of 2005 to cut the Saint lead to one. Junior defenseman Chris Pendergast (Miller Place, NY) was credited with the assist. The Hawk’s rally, however, was quieted as sophomore forward David Orsorno (Elmhurst, NY) reestablished the Saint’s two-goal lead only five minutes later. St. Lawrence would add a late goal to increase their edge and secure the 4-1 victory.

The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team will play their home finale tomorrow, Saturday, October, 29 at 12:00 pm against Skidmore College.
