SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Nets Win at Mount St. Mary’s

NEWBURGH, NY — This evening a Cronomer Park in Newburgh, The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team improved their record to 7-1 with a 6-3 defeat of Mount St. Maryýs.

The Hawks took four of six possible points in singles play. At number one singles, sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated sophomore Gina Trapini (Walden, NY) 6-1, 6-4. Mount St. Maryýs (5-1) was able to grab wins at number two and three singles. Senior Briseyda Acevedo (Newburgh, NY) defeated freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) 6-3, 6-4 in the second flight and freshman Dominique Califano (Matawan, NJ) defeated senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 in the third flight. Sophomore Jen Larson (Selden, NY), and freshmen Brittany Gilligan (Saratoga Springs, NY) and Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) all came away with victories in flights four through six, respectively.

SUNY New Paltz (7-1) dropped the number one doubles match for the first time this year. Fenton and Larson fell 7-9 in a hard fought affair against Trapini and Acevedo, who remain undefeated in doubles action. Freshmen sisters Lindsay and Ashley Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) defeated Califano and freshman Justine Guercio (Carmel, NY) 8-1 in the second doubles flight. Freshmen Bianca Farrantelli (Lido Beach, NY) and Amanda Fusco (Long Beach, NY) combined to take number three doubles 8-2.

The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this Friday, September 30, at 4:00 pm.
