SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Advances in ITA Tournament

GENEVA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will be competing at the William Smith ITA Tournament throughout the weekend. In today’s opening round sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester. NY) defeated senior Julia Dobler of Manhattanville, 6-0, 6-2. In the second round of matches, number sixteen ranked Yamakwa defeated Amada Lubold of Lebanon Valley 6-2, 6-0, allowing her to advance to the third round of play. Yamakawa will face number one seed Sarah Coleman of Hamilton College in the third round.

Senior Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) lost to number eight seed Meggie Smith of New York University 6-0, 6-4. In consolation play, Fenton lost a tough match to Ashley Balling of Brockport 8-4.

The Hawks freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY) defeated Stephanie Abrams of Skidmore College in the first round 6-4, 6-3. In the second round, Lim lost straight sets to conference rival Amanda Husson of Cortland, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, Maggie Fenton and Jennifer Larson (Port Jervis, NY) defeated Balling and Mizgala of Brockport 8-6. In the second round the Hawks Fenton and Larson have drawn a rematch of conference rival Dorscheid and Husson of Cortland.

Number four seed Lim and Yamakawa shutout Dobler and Mc Dowell of Manhattanville College 8-0. The win advances the Hawks doubles team of Lim and Yamakawa into the second round where they will face off against Lannon and Moulin of St. Lawrence.
