SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Holds Off Brockport

NEW PALTZ, NY — This afternoon the SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team won their third conference game of 2005 with a 2-1 victory over Brockport. Today’s victory marks the first time in school history that the Hawks have defeated the Golden Eagles. Brockport (4-4-1, 2-2) had won the previous ten meetings between the teams.

SUNY New Paltz (6-2-1, 3-2) struck first on an awarded penalty kick. Freshman midfielder Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland, NY) laced the ball to the bottom right hand corner of the net, clear past sophomore goalkeeper Liz Durfee (Williamson, NY) for the 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later the Hawks struck again. Anselmi placed the ball into the box where an open, senior midfielder, Amanda Picarelli (Miller Place, NY) deflected the ball past Durfee to the top left corner of the net.

The Golden Eagles lone goal came on a late second half push as senior defender Kasey Andrieu (Rochester, NY) lobbed a corner kick to the far side of the box where sophomore Jill Neidlinger (Burt, NY) headed into the goal.

The Hawk’s defense continued its impressive play in 2005, allowing the Golden Eagles only three shots in the first half and six in the second. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY) totaled two saves in the win. Durfee recorded three saves for Brockport.
