Long and Delia Receive Chancellor’s Award

NEW PALTZ, NY — Junior Kelly Long (Endwell, NY) and sophomore Liz Delia (Oswego, NY) were among 14 SUNYAC student-athletes to receive the Chancellorýs Scholar-Athlete Award last evening (Apr.25).

Long and Delia were honored by SUNY Chancellor King at an awards ceremony in Syracuse, NY. The Chancellorýs Scholar-Athlete Award is given to a student-athlete in each SUNYAC sponsored sport who was a member the all-conference team and earned the highest grade-point average.

Long helped lead the SUNY New Paltz womenýs volleyball team to a 27-11 record and a post-season appearance in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. With 27 wins, the Hawks equaled their highest win total since the 1999 season. In addition, SUNY New Paltz went 7-3 in conference play and finished in a tie for second place in the Eastern Division. Long averaged a team-best 2.87 digs per game and was a Second Team All-SUNYAC selection.

An Asian studies major, Long is a Deanýs List student at SUNY New Paltz. In addition, she is a three-time member of the All-SUNYAC Academic Team.

Delia has been a key member of the SUNY New Paltz womenýs swimming team since arriving in the fall of 2004. She has helped lead the Hawks to back-to-back undefeated seasons in dual meet competition while establishing herself as one of the top swimmers in the conference. She is a two-time SUNYAC Champion in the 200 IM and was the conference champion in the 400 IM this winter as well. She is a two-time, First Team All-SUNYAC selection and was named the teamýs Most Valuable Swimmer as a freshman.

A business management major, Delia is a Deanýs List student and a two-time member of the All-SUNYAC Academic Team.
