Hawks Suffer Doubleheader Loss at RMC

ASLAND, VA — After a 22-run, 23-hit attack in the series opener yesterday, the Hawks dropped a doubleheader to Randolph-Macon College this afternoon.

In game one, the Hawks tried to rally from a 9-3 deficit after five innings. SUNY New Paltz came up with five in the sixth to pull to within a run but ultimately fell 9-8. John DeKams and Josh Gutes each had two hits and William Kelts drove in two runs. DeKams also started for the Hawks and suffered the loss.

In game two, Randolph-Macon scored six times in the bottom of the fifth to turn a 3-2 lead into a 9-2 advantage.

Travis Beazley scattered four hits and struck out nine Hawks in a seven-inning complete game effort. DeKams and Jeff Cote’ each had an RBI for SUNY New Paltz.

Michael Virga started, pitched five innings and suffered the loss for SUNY New Paltz (1-5).
