SUNY New Paltz Swimming Teams Complete Second Day of ECAC Meet

LONG ISLAND, NY — The SUNY New Paltz swimming teams completed the second day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference, ECAC, Championships this evening in good standing.

SUNY New Paltz women took second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Junior Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY), senior Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY), sophomore Katie Rapp (Liverpool, NY), and sophomore Ashley Williamson (Holland Patent, NY) finished the race with a 1:41.47. Lindner led a host of Hawk swimmers that placed among the top 15 in the 100-yard backstroke. Lindner finished third with a 1:02.08, Rapp placed sixth (1:03.52), Williamson placed ninth (1:05.41), and sophomore Claire Gerard (Stony Point, NY) placed 12th (1:06.95).

Masterson swam to a tenth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.26), teammate sophomore Nevine Roberts (Pound Ridge, NY) finished fourteenth (2:06.42). Senior Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY) grabbed a fourth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.57. Freshman Regina Davide (Ossining, NY), sophomore Christina Magill (Poughquag, NY), and freshman Laura Lipp (Smithtown, NY) finished 13th (1:15.00), 14th (1:15.54) and 15th (1:15.87) respectively.

Sophomore Liz Delia (Oswego, NY) came in fifth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:47.47, freshman Liz Ruggiero (Congers, NY) finished 16th (5:03.70). Ruggiero also swam 10th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.30).

The SUNY New Paltz women’s swimming team finished the second day of competition in fourth place with 314 points.

This evening’s top finish for the men came in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) grabbed a second place finish with a time of 54.02. The 100-yard butterfly brought another top ten finish for Yeung who placed in ninth (54.43).

Senior Jay Sousa (Albany, NY), sophomore Craig Gottesman (Oceanside, NY) freshman Brendan Lown (Bohemia, NY) and freshman Mike Demerest (Long Beach, NY) swam to an eighth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.32).

Freshman Nick Johnson (Highland Mills, NY) seized a ninth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.70), sophomore Danny Lo (Toms River, NY) finished 14th (1:03.85). Freshman John Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY) finished 27th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.43).

The SUNY New Paltz men’s swimming team finished the second day of competition in seventh place with 128 points. Both Hawk teams will look to move up the standings tomorrow (Dec. 5), on the final day of the ECAC event. Complete results for this weekend’s meet can be viewed at the following two websites:
