SUNY New Paltz Men’s Basketball Drops Second Straight

BUFFALO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team lost 80-65 to conference rival Buffalo State this evening.

The lone bright spots for the Hawks (3-4, 1-2) were sophomore guard Tony Cannon (New York, NY) and junior guard Maurice Douglas (Brooklyn, NY). Douglas led the Hawks with a career night in points (26), rebounds (8), and steals (4). Cannon pitched in, tying his career highs in points (11), and rebounds (6).

Buffalo State (3-1, 2-0) had four players in double figures. Junior forward Gregg Jones (Syracuse, NY) kept the Bengals on top, going 7-8 from the field and 7-11 from the line, and finished with 21 points. Sophomore forwards John Lawal (Hempstead, NY), 11 points, and Aaron Carter (Niagara Falls, NY), 16 points, joined junior guard Jay Wingate (Henrietta, NY), 11 points, and Jones to lead the Bengals’ offense to victory.

The Hawks went 0-2 on their weekend conference road trip, and fall to 1-2 in State University of New York Athletic Conference, SUNYAC, play.
