SUNY New Paltz Swimming Teams Victorious Over Vassar

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s swimming teams both swam to victories in this afternoon’s meet against Vassar College. The women continued their winning streak and improved to 4-0, winning 117-83. The men evened out their record at 2-2 with a 124-58 win.

Junior Joanna Masterson (Canandaigua, NY) and senior Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY) both took first in three events. Lindner grabbed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.34) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.10). Masterson finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.02) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.21). They joined senior Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY), and sophomore Liz Delia (Oswego, NY) to place first in the 400-yard medley relay (4:11.95). Delia also took first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:48.51).

Freshman Katie Hickman (Phoenix, AZ) placed first for the Brewers (2-3) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.40).

The SUNY New Paltz men were led by senior Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) who finished first in three events. Yeung came away with first place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.74), the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.29) and in the 400-yard medley relay, with freshman Nick Johnson (Highland Mills, NY) junior Jeff Melton (Acworth, GA) and senior Jay Sousa (Albany, NY) in a time of 3:49.35.

Junior Rob Greil (Alfred, NY) grabbed first in the 100-yard freestyle (52.6) for Vassar (1-4).
