Hawks Take Consolation Game at NYU Tourney

NEW YORK, NY — Junior guard Keith Crichlow (Central Islip, NY) led four Hawks in double figures with 20 points and SUNY New Paltz led from start to finish in an 86-73 win over Washington & Lee in the consolation game of the New York University Tip-Off Tournament this afternoon.

Sophomore guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) hit an early three-point field goal to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead three minutes into the game. Sophomore forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson (Jamaica, NY) gave SUNY New Paltz its first double figure lead of the day when he hit a lay up at the 11:30 mark to extend the Hawks advantage to 17-6. SUNY New Paltz (1-1) led by as many as 17 in the first half before Washington & Lee used a 14-6 run in the final six minutes to cut the Hawks’ lead to 37-31 at the break.

In the second half, Washington & Lee (0-2) pulled to within a basket on two occasions. Leading 43-41 with 16:25 to play, Foluke-Henderson scored four straight points to increase the Hawks advantage to 47-41. Chrichlow then capped off a 13-5 Hawks’ run midway through the second half to put SUNY New Paltz in front 60-48.

The Hawks maintained a double figure lead the rest of the way to earn claim third place in the tournament. Junior guard Maurice Douglas (Brooklyn, NY) scored 16 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Foluke-Henderson finished with 14 points and Irwin added 10 points, four assists and two steals.
