Hawks Fall in Four Games to Geneseo

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team dropped its opening round match to Geneseo in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament at Brockport this afternoon.

After dropping the opening game 30-10, SUNY New Paltz shook off its first game troubles to prevail 31-29 in the second game. Geneseo regained control of the match with a 30-24 win in game three and then used a 30-21 win in the fourth to advance in the tournament.

With the victory, Geneseo will face host Brockport in the semifinals tomorrow at 11 a.m. SUNY New Paltz, now 27-10, will hope to earn an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate New York Tournament. The field for the tournament will be announced on Monday (Nov. 8).

The Hawks struggled on the offensive end with 29 kills in 124 attempts for .129 hitting percentage. Junior Andrea Kaiser (Blue Point, NY) led the Hawks with 10 kills. Sophomore Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY) had 20 digs and freshman Kate Becofsky (Altamont, NY) added 21 assists.

Geneseo (23-14) was led by Kate Barth who had 23 kills, seven digs and a .321 hitting percentage. As a team the Blue Knights had 14 service aces and hit .345 for the match.
