Geneseo Defeats SUNY New Paltz in Conference Semifinal

ONEONTA, NY — Senior Eric Lauricella scored late in the second half to send second-seeded Geneseo into the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament Championship game with a 1-0 win over the third-seeded SUNY New Paltz at the Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, NY this afternoon.

Senior Andy Rice set up Lauricella’s game-winner in the 75th-minute to help the Blue Knights (12-4-2) avenge a 3-1 loss to Hawks on October 2 in New Paltz. SUNY New Paltz reached the semifinals following a 1-0 double overtime win over sixth-seeded Buffalo on Tuesday in New Paltz.

SUNY New Paltz had its five-game winning streak stopped and dropped to 12-10 on the season. The Hawks will hope to be a part of next week’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate New York Tournament The Hawks will await the announcement of the tournament field on Monday (Nov. 8).

Geneseo will face top-seeded Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC Championship game tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at the Soccer Hall of Fame. The Cardinals advanced to championship game with a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded Brockport.
